Tuck Pointing in Richmond & South West London
Tuck pointing is the finest and most demanding finish in British brickwork. A coloured base mortar is matched to the brick so the joint visually disappears, then a fine white lime ribbon is cut and run over the top to imitate impossibly thin, perfectly regular joints. It was the mark of a well-built Georgian or early Victorian house, and very few firms still hand-execute it. We do.

Our process
How we approach the job
Survey & record
We photograph and measure surviving original ribbon work so the new work matches width, colour and setting-out exactly.
Rake out by hand
Old mortar and any previous cement over-pointing removed by hand only. Grinders are never used on this work.
Colour-matched stopping
The base mortar is mixed with pigments and local sand to match the brick face, then flushed off level.
Cut & run the ribbon
A fine white lime ribbon is applied, cut to a consistent width with a jointer and straightedge, and left slightly proud.
Protect & cure
Hessian, damping and weather protection through the lime carbonation period so the ribbon gains strength without cracking.
